German cinema - "Die Entdeckung der Currywurst"

I am a bit puzzled there.. Should I put this article into the culture or gastronomy and food section??
When I tell you the German people are obsessed with sausages..

So there we are. A novel written in 1995 by Uwe Timms, "the discovery of the currywurst "(a sausage with a spicy curry sauce) relates the story of Lena, who falls in love with the marine soldier Hermann during the 2d World War. HErmann tries to escape he war and hides in Lena's cellar. They gradually fall in love, but, when the war is over, Hermann leaves her.Lena has to try a way to survive. She randomly discovers the receipe of the currywurst, and opens a restaurant.
I have seen the trailer of the film that has been made out of the novel in 2008 (Director: Ulla Wagner). I have to say I have been quite amused. The story is embedded in the war history, its difficulties, etc. The staging and costumes are really nice. But yet, it is all about a currywurst. It really felt like a joke, a lack of seriousness when speaking about those hardtimes.. It was weird.
But after all, I'm in Germany, it's about sausages, and the novel is a success. So I guess it's gonna be a hit... But this made me laugh for good 5 minutes... :-)
