Internships: the biggest joke ever
Internships have become an essential part in education. You don't get a diploma anymore if you have not spent some time in a company. The original ground for that is that thanks to internships, you gain invaluable experience that universities cannot provide you with. Not totally false. But...
Today, internships have only become a way for companies to pay you less for the same job.
Worse... They have lost their appeal for students, as far as gaining experience is concerned. In a word, they have besome the biggest pretext ever to have low paid employees...
Just one personal example to support my claim:
I have applied to a job at Disney.. Great. I fullfilled all the requirements. I phone the guy because I was not sure they had received my application (indeed, they did not...). Well, the guy takes advantage of my call and asks me what I'm doing.. I explain that I've just completed a 6 months internship (where, if I may, I was totally doing a proper job, and have never said once I was an intern, but a junior consultant)..
And he replies.. "Yes, but we are looking for people with experience. And you only did internships..."
AND WHAT ARE INTERNSHIP MADE FOR????????????????? 2 years spent doing internships, is that not enough?
So, to sum up: do your internships because you have to, be exploited, don't be paid, and don't gain anything for that.. Waow. Great...
