The power of Web 2.0 and social networking
Her name is Cathy.
She is about 90 years old. She lives alone, isolated from the world, half of the year in a simple box. Very few people has ever met her. And despite all that, a few days ago, she became famous. How? Thanks to the power of social media, and more precisely Facebook.
Well, let's be clear now, Cathy is our family's tortoise. No wonder she has no publicity in the real life. But still, this very example proves how strong social media are. You can create your content, and promote what wou want. And you have almost full freedom for it on blogs and profiles like FB. That's exactly what Web 2.0 is. You are given the chance to create the Web. And if you use it widely, it is etremely powerful. However, the main risiko is influence that come from everywhere, and whom quality you can be concerned of. One may wonder what totalist and extremist political organisations could have done with Internet a few decades ago.
Should we be afraid. I don't think so. Since as for anything in life, the Web gets more and more structurized and auto-regulated. Like with Wikipedia, whom content is now more accurate than a few years before. It's the same for blogs. You now have a few landmarks: blogs of influential people that are widely spread and act as ambassadors and opinion leaders.
Afraid, I don't think so. Careful, surely.
