Max, mein Bruder

"Max, mein Bruder" is a book that means a lot to me. Written by Sigrid Zeevaert, this is a children book telling the story of Johanna, a 10 years old girl, who has a twin, Max. One day, they suddendly and unexpectedly find out that Mas is ill. Leukaemia. Slowly, gradually, we watch Max getting even iller and weaker, all that through the eyes of his own twin sister.
The story is written in a very beautiful way, full of tactfullness, reserve and poetry. At the same time, it is also a very pedagogic book, explaining to young kids what a cancer is, how it evolves. And because the story is related through the eyes of a 10 years old girl, it is also full of naivety, and is very touching. Zeevaert really understood what can happen in the brain of a little girl confronted to so grown-up matters.
I would definitely advice this book. One of my favorite. From the time I read it for the first time - I was perhaps 11 - this story never left me. I read it dozens times, in French then in German. And each time, this book makes me cry. Every single time. Because it is so sad. Because it is on the other hand so beautiful. I just finished it once more today. And once again, I could not prevent tears to appear.
I really wanted to introduce you to this wonderful children book.
